Acorn Class
At the beginning of the academic year, our Year R children start by attending school in the mornings until after lunch. This is to help them to transition into primary school and to settle. At the end of the first full week they will attend for their first full day.
During their first term in Year R (Early Years Foundation Stage), the class teacher will complete the Reception Baseline Assessment, which is an activity-based assessment of pupils’ starting points in:
- language, communication and literacy
- mathematics
It is a short task-based assessment and the children will use practical resources to complete the tasks.
At the end of Year R the children are assessed using the Early Learning Goals, which can be found in the Early Years Framework: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/early-years-foundation-stage-framework--2
Your child will mostly be taught through games and play and the areas of learning are:
- communication and language
- physical development
- personal, social and emotional development
- literacy
- mathematics
- understanding the world
- expressive arts and design
